Compassionate, family-centered care is the heart of our By The Bay Kids pediatric palliative care program. If a child is diagnosed with a chronic, serious or life-threatening illness, we're here to support the entire family. Our expert care can significantly improve a young patient's quality of life and while offering emotional and other vital help to their family.
Our specially trained pediatric Team is available to care for newborns to teens. In order to meet our patients’ medical, physical and emotional needs, and offer family members information, education and support, our Team is made up of medical directors, pediatric nurses, social workers, home health aides, trained volunteers and spiritual support counselors. Grief counseling is also available to parents and family members of all ages.
Working with parents or guardians and a family’s own physician, our staff creates a plan of care unique to each child and family. We discuss care and treatment options with parents so they can make informed decisions.
Depending on our patients' needs, we offer care right at home. We can also visit them a hospital or care facility. For parents coping with a high-risk pregnancy, or giving birth to a baby who will live only a short time, our Team can help with peri-natal and neo-natal care and a plan for a peaceful delivery.
This October, we'll expand our work with children and teens in Marin, San Francisco and Sonoma counties. By The Bay Kids joins with the state’s Partners For Children to offer a pediatric palliative care program for Medi-Cal eligible children and their families. One of 13 pilot programs, our young patients with life-limiting conditions will continue to receive all curative and other medical treatments while cared for by our Team.
