Grief Counseling

Serving Hospice Families & The CommunitySenior man comforting sad young woman

Grief is a natural process that can be eased by professional counseling and support. Hospice By The Bay's counseling programs are open to everyone in the community coping with a loss, as well as families whose loved one has been in our care. Our counselors create a safe place for clients of all ages to feel comforted and understood.Counseling is offered in Larkspur, San Francisco, and various locations in Sonoma County. Some services are free of charge, while others are fee-based. A sliding-fee scale is available for those who qualify. For more information, click on the links in the menu on the left.

  • Individual & Family Counseling
For adults and children from age three and up who are coping with or anticipating a loss.
  • Support Groups
Led by our professional counselors, groups are offered on topics that deal with loss, including coping with or anticipating a loss of a parent, spouse, or LGBT partner, and other losses in life. Groups are generally a lower-cost option for grief support.
  • Grief Support for Children & Teens
Our youth specialists offer counseling and support groups for children and teens, many employing art projects and play therapy. Hospice By The Bay also hosts an annual youth grief support weekend,
Camp Erin Oakland/Bay Area, which is free to campers ages 6-17 who are coping with the loss of a loved one.
  • Memorial & Other Community Events
Open to the public, these well-loved community gatherings offer support and healing as we remember the lives of our loved ones.
  • Community Crisis Support & Grief Education
When a death happens in a group -- a workplace, school or community -- Hospice By The Bay grief counselors can help. They can visit on-site to offer groups and other kinds of support. At schools, our counselors can also offer classroom or faculty presentations on coping with grief and helping young people heal from loss.
