Youth Grief Support Program Children grieve differently than adults. Their understanding of and reactions to death vary depending on their age, support systems, culture and experience with loss. It is important that adults listen to children and help them feel safe and cared for. Hospice By The Bay's professional youth counselors support grieving children and help them express their feelings about their loss. These programs and services open to anyone in the community.
Individual or Family Counseling for children and teens, ages 3 to 18.
School Groups and Programs are available at the school site after a shared loss.
Presentationsfor school faculty and community groups provide information on identifying and supporting youth coping with grief after loss. For teens, our counselors can offer in-classroom presentations.
Comfort Bear Project:Children in our grief counseling program may request a teddy bear made from their loved one's clothing as a way of honoring and cherishing their memory.
Support Groups for various age groups that may include therapeutic discussions, art projects, journal writing or play.
Camp Erin Oakland/Bay Area is a grief support weekend held each summer for ages 6-17 who are coping with the loss of someone significant in their lives. Free of charge for campers, this healing experience is hosted by Hospice By The Bay with support from the Moyer Foundation.
